Chapter 11 - Rafael

Rafael was floating for a few days after his wildly successful first date with Ashley. Nothing could drag down his mood after the way she had felt in his arms. He might have been turning into a hopeless romantic, but he dreamed about the way they connected on a deeper level when they had had sex—okay, maybe he could even consider it making love with her. Involved dreams that all featured lengthy interludes in bed. He had never felt this way about a woman before, in or out of bed. He could almost believe the stories about fated attraction, true mates, whatever the different breed of shifters called it. There was nothing so fated about him and Ashley, however, it was just amazing chemistry, and passion the likes of which he would love to have around for longer than a human lifespan.

His friends’ continued teasing didn’t even register as irritating, though he had not seen as much of them once Ashley had agreed to his date, he’d been too focused on her. He was inclined to try and draw her out somehow, because while she’d been eager enough while she was with him, it was always Rafael reaching out to her, never the other way around. Her hesitation didn’t sit well with him.

"Raf?"

The voice brought him out of his train of thought and he returned his attention to the programmer he had a meeting with in… damn. His meeting should have started five minutes ago. "Sorry, Adam. I totally lost track of the time." The man was hovering in Raf’s office doorway, essentially just poking his head in as though the CEO might bite. Rafael recognized the uncertainty and debated the best way to ease the man’s obvious fears. "Would you like to come in, or shall we go down to the conference room I should’ve met you in five minutes ago?" A self-deprecating smile earned him a weak chuckle. It was a start.

"I suppose I’m here now, sir."

Rafael winced. "Raf, please. I hear 'sir' and I’m looking around for my father." He beckoned. "Please, come in and make yourself comfortable. Would you like something to drink?"

The programmer settled into the chair opposite Raf’s desk and shook his head. "No, I’m fine, thank you. I hope I’m not interrupting?"

Raf laughed quietly. "Only daydreams about my girlfriend. I apologize for not keeping better track of time." He glanced around the mess on his normally pristine desk and sighed. He slowly shuffled through his papers until he found the email from Adam he’d printed out and written some notes on. "My biggest concern with your idea is security. Scheduling software is well within our capabilities, but having the privacy concerns when both parties allow the program into their calendars is going to be a big stumbling block."

Adam nodded, his nervousness disappearing as soon as the conversation moved to the program he’d proposed. "It’s also the reason there isn’t something like this yet. There are workarounds where each person involved has to spend time going through the proposed dates and times, potentially more than once.
